Through education, debate and exhibitions, The Ben Enwonwu Foundation sustains Ben Enwonwu's legacy.
In 2004, the Foundation began its distinguished lecture series in honour of the artist. It has since become one of the most important event on the Lagos art and cultural calendar. The lectures also offer an opportunity for national and international leaders, renowned academics and policy makers to share their understanding and perspectives on the role of art in shaping society.
In addition, The Ben Enwonwu Foundation also supports publications and research through a scholarship scheme that benefits students of Yaba College of Technology, Ahmadu Bello University, Obafemi Awolowo University and the University of Lagos.
In furtherance of its objectives, the Foundation opened an art centre in the artist's home to foster a deeper understanding of Enwonwu's philosophy and working methods. The centre also houses the Omenka Gallery, which represents a select number of African and international artists while examining in an experimental and research-minded way, contemporary art developments in Nigeria.
Currently, the Foundation is completing several projects, which include publishing Enwonwu's autobiography, lectures and writings on contemporary African art, as well as a catalogue raisonné.
